The Jauntee
jam band · rock · bluegrass
The Jauntee is an improvisational rock quartet formed in Boston in 2010 and now based in Colorado, comprising Caton Sollenberger on guitar and vocals, Tyler Adams on keyboards and vocals, John Loland on bass and Scott Ferber on drums and vocals. The band blends jazz, funk, rock and psychedelia into extended live improvisation, following in the lineage of Phish in that its arrangements are written to be dismantled onstage rather than reproduced, with compositions opening into long group passages that change shape from night to night. Three members sing, which lets the band move between tightly arranged vocal sections and open instrumental stretches within a single piece. The studio catalogue begins with Enjoy the Ride (2012) and continues through Excelsior (2015) and Always Never Knowing (2018). After a long gap the group released its third full-length, Anything, in July 2023 via Regime Music Group, a thirteen-song set recorded at the band's former live-work studio space in Longmont, Colorado and led by the single Brick By Brick. Alongside the studio records, The Jauntee documents its shows on the ongoing Jaunts of Our Lives series of live releases, which began in 2019 and has reached a fourth volume, and it maintains an archive of full-show recordings from rooms including Paradise Rock Club in Boston, Cervantes' Other Side in Denver, the Lazy Dog in Boulder and Aisle 5 in Atlanta. The band tours nationally and is a regular presence in the Denver jam scene, playing both Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom and the adjoining Other Side.
